For one day a year, the Theater of the Mind gives way to a warm hearth and a bowl of gingerbread – and when from the roof there arises a clatter, it’s neither a faceless monster nor a Martian.

It’s Christmas.

In a season awash with Marley’s Ghost from London and Sugarplum Fairies from Germany (written by a Russian composer), the Atlanta Radio Theatre Company brings you back home to the Deep South with a series of stories told in audio to inspire the imagination.

Now in its 26th consecutive year!

Welcome back to the podcast!

It’s hard to pin down which was the first time travel story (if you know, be sure to let us know or post about it in the forums!) but it’s undeniable the influence and effect that H. G. Wells’s The Time Machine has had on the general idea. Having the Time Traveller go so far into the future avoids the temptation to try to guess at what today’s modern trends and fashions would have evolved into in favor of exploring a completely alternate reality, while also taking a stab at the ultimate fate of mankind.

This installment of the podcast, The Time Machine, will be presented in four parts.  Written by H. G. Wells and adapted by Thomas E. Fuller, The Time Machine is one of the most well-known examples of classic science fiction.

The Atlanta History Center is a unique campus that houses the Atlanta History Museum, Centennial Olympic Games Museum, Swan House, Smith Family Farm, six historic gardens, and the Kenan Research Center. The Atlanta History Center also includes the Margaret Mitchell House, located off-site at our Midtown campus.

There have also been no fewer than 4 movies or teleplays and it has inspired countless other media, including books, television shows, movies, comics, animation, and much more! Welcome back to the podcast! A bit of trivia about this performance…

The Time Machine was part of ARTC’s cassette catalog for a long time. When we started the process of converting our offerings to CD, however, we decided that this piece needed a new treatment in the studio. Thomas Fuller had done a rewrite of the script after the original cassette had been released and had considered the new script to be the superior version. So, at the moment, The Time Machine is considered out of print, but we have big plans to bring it back into the studio! Also on that out of print version was Brad Strickland’s A Glitch In Time. We’ll be bringing that back, too, possibly sooner rather than later.

Christmas Rose

Well, here we are.  The end of another year of podcasting for ARTC.  Ok, fine, we didn’t exactly podcast for the whole year, but the point is that we took some needed time off and came back with a better situation than we had before.  We’re looking forward to podcasting at least monthly and more often when we can.

This week we bring you Christmas Rose by Kelley S. Ceccato, performed live at the Academy Theatre in Avondale Estates, GA, on December 6 and 7, 2008.

This story is one of my personal favorites of Kelley’s.  She’s written lots of stuff for us and continues to improve in her craft and we are very lucky to have her.  We hope you enjoy it.

As we move into the New Year we at ARTC hope that all of you enjoy all of the magic that your imaginations can provide.  Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone and we’ll see you next year!

Welcome back!  The hiatus is over!  …sort of.

After over six months of being off the air the Atlanta Radio Theatre Company is bringing its podcast back on a monthly schedule.  Why monthly?  Because we’re still not done with the archiving, but we couldn’t bear to be away any longer.  How long will the monthly updating last?  We’ll have to see.

Thanks so much to everyone who has hung in there.  For now we’re going to shoot for the second Thursday of every month by 8pm and in between I’ll try to report any news that may be of note.
